Surgery may end Peterson’s season
Adrian Peterson will have surgery on his right knee to repair a torn meniscus, putting his season in question.
The Vikings have held off for now on placing the team’s all-time leading rusher on injured reserve, though waiting for the medical report will influence that decision. Peterson was hurt Sunday night against the Packers, needing assistance off the field after his knee was slightly twisted while being tackled at the end of a 5-yard run.
He told ESPN the type of tear he was diagnosed with typically requires a minimum recovery time of three to four months. But Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said the timetable for Peterson’s return won’t be clear until after the procedure.
“Everything is possible,” Zimmer said. “It could be season ending. It could be three weeks, four weeks. I don’t know.”
ESPN reported that Peterson also has a torn LCL, which both Peterson and the team denied.

Jacoby Brissett could become the first African-American quarterback to start a regular-season game for the Patriots.
Brissett’s opportunity comes because starter Tom Brady still is suspended and Jimmy Garoppolo has a shoulder injury and is listed as doubtful.
The Patriots and the Giants are the only NFL teams that never have started an African-American quarterback.
Hoyer taking snaps: Bears
backup quarterback Brian Hoyer is preparing as if he’s the starter in place of the injured Jay Cutler. Cutler hasn’t officially been listed as being out, but is not practicing as the team prepares to play the Cowboys on Sunday night.
Warrant withdrawn: Anarrest warrant for suspended Browns receiver Josh Gordonwas withdrawn after he complied with a year-old court order to take a DNA test in a paternity suit.
The warrant had been issued Aug. 31 after Gordon failed to respond to several subpoenas over the course of a year demanding he take the test. Gordon’s attorneys said in a statement he was unaware that he had been requested to take the test.
A hearing has been set for Nov. 8. Meanwhile, a league spokesman said Gordon remains eligible to play for the first time this season Oct. 9.
Extra points: Colts QB Andrew Luck missed practice with a sore shoulder but said he plans to play Sunday against the Chargers. There’s no timetable yet for his return.
