Class of 2018: Prospects to look out for in upcoming season

With most of Broward County’s top senior football prospects making their college commitment­s official onNational SigningDay, the focus now shifts to the area’s best in the Class of 2018.

This year’s juniors figure to be just as impressive as – if not, better than – the departing seniors.

Below are 10 prospects from the Class of 2018 to watch, listed alphabetic­ally, followed by an honor roll of top-notch talent to look forward to.

WR Kevin Austin, North Broward Prep

Four-star prospect uses his 6-foot-3 frame to easily catch balls over corners. Also possesses the speed to break away from defenders and runs solid routes. Caught 21 TDs as a junior and played some safety.

CB Al Blades Jr., ThomasAqui­nas

Son of late Miami Hurricanes great Al Blades who has been on the national recruiting scene since freshman year at University School. Animated and passionate at 6-feet, 170 pounds, creates turnovers in secondary.

DE Nik Bonitto, ThomasAqui­nas

Extremely athletic at 6-4 and 210 pounds; able to either get around a blocker or bull rush him. Fundamenta­lly sound four-star defender who’s good against St. St. the run and able to rush the passer with a number of impressive­moves at the line of scrimmage.

DB Tyson Campbell, AmericanHe­ritage

Long cover-corner at 6-2, 180 pounds. Four-star possesses ball skills in man coverage at corner, as well as playing center field at safety, leading to intercepti­ons. Can deliver big hits if he gets goingdownh­illona ball carrier.

DE Andrew Chatfield, AmericanHe­ritage

Unblockabl­e off the edge. Elite pass rusher at 6-foot-3, 220 pounds was Sun Sentinel small schools Defensive Player of the Year following junior season where he led Broward with 24.5 sacks.

LB Rosendo Deerfield Beach

Hard-hitter in the middle of the Bucks defense at 6-foot-1, 225 pounds. Tallied 113 tackles, eight for loss and four sacks as a junior.

CB Asante Samuel St. ThomasAqui­nas

Son of former NFL AllPro CB Asante Samuel. At 5-10, 166 pounds, the fourstar corner is quick andconsist­ently makes plays on the ball. Once he picks off a pass, he’s always a threat to take it the other way for 6. Also a master of blocked kicks on special teams.

RB Shaun Shivers, Chaminade-Madonna

Three-star rating doesn’t do him justice — the 5-7, 160-pound Auburn commit is always an impact player. Louis, Jr., With blazing speed and astute vision, able to break off the long touchdown run fromanywhe­re on the field.

CB Patrick Surtain II, AmericanHe­ritage

Five-star prospect and No. 1 CB in the nation, according to 247Sports composite rankings. Supreme cover skills at 6-foot-2, 181 pounds with ability to play physical and run with the fastest receivers. An LSU lean early with father and coachPatri­ckSurtain aNew Orleans native.

WR Xavier Williams, Chaminade-Madonna
