Investigators say Darryl Rudolph, the father of FSU star and NFL hopeful Travis Rudolph, died of a gunshot wound from an AK-47-style rifle.

Paul Senat is facing a manslaughter charge in connection with Rudolph’s death. During a Wednesday court hearing, a judge set his bond at $35,000 and said, if released, Senat cannot have any contact with members ofRudolph’s family.

Senat, 36, must also stay away from Sugar Daddy’s Adult Cabaret, even though he is a partial owner.

Investigators say Senat moved the weapon off a shelf at the club at 704 S. Military Trail near West Palm Beach Friday night. The weapon fired and the bullet struck the 55-year-old repairman in the neck. Rudolph died of his injuries the next day.

The owner of the club, David Fiore, told detectives the weapon belonged to the club and was stored in the liquor room, according to the arrest report in the case. Fiore said he and several other employees, including Rudolph, were discussing business issues when he heard a loud bang. Rudolph fell to the floor. Fiore said they initially thought the gunshot came from outside the club.

Senat told investigators he wanted to move the rifle and didn’t realize it fired. After the gunshot, Senat said he left the room and found Rudolph on the floor. He also said he keeps a gun for personal protection and has some familiarity with firearms, according to the arrest report.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said the weapon had a safety lock, but itwasn’t engaged.

Travis Rudolph grew up in Lake Park and played pee wee and youth football in Riviera Beach. After attending Cardinal Newman High School he chose to attend FSUwhere he’snowa junior in sports management.

Rudolph made headlines last season when a photo of him having lunch with a Tallahassee student with autism went viral. The student had been sitting by himself and the two have since become friends.

Rudolph is expected to be selected in this week’s NFL draft.
