School lets go of two top coaches
Turnover is becoming a tradition for Oxbridge Academy’s athletic department as two more of the ThunderWolves’ most successful coaches have been let go.
According to multiple sources, the West Palm Beach private school dismissed girls soccer Staci Wilson and girls basketball coachTracyWolfe – both of whom led their teams to states this year.
The school, founded in 2011 by energy tycoon William Koch, declined to renew contracts for Wolfe and Wilson, sources said. Both women, who coached and taught at the school, were hired within the past two years. Oxbridge also parts ways with strength and conditioning coach David Padilla.
The personnel changes follow last year’s ouster of the football coach and athletic director as Oxbridge Academy’s board of directors began implementing a plan to de-emphasize the athletics program, one source said.
School officials declined comment Wednesday except to say the coaching jobs were vacated as a result of “changes in teaching positions,” Oxbridge spokesperson LisaMurphy said.
Coach of the Year for 2017, Wilson led the ThunderWolves soccer team to a 25-2-6 record and the Florida Class 2A championship in February for the school’s first state title in any sport.
Wolfe, who amassed a 38-17 record over two seasons, guided this year's girls hoops team to its first state final-four berth. Oxbridge fell to Orlando Jones in the Class 5A semifinals in March. Whether the ThunderWolves, despite Wolfe's departure, will return their entire starting lineup as expected, including AllCounty sophomores Aaliyah Stanley and Alexa Zaph, remains to be seen.
