Former Miami Heat center Willie Reed has been charged with misdemeanor domestic battery in MiamiDade.

Reed, 27, was booked at 3:06 a.m. early Sunday morning, taken to theTurner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Bond was posted at $1,500, with Reed later released to former Heat teammate Okaro White, according to MiamiDade court records.

Reed, who agreed to terms last month with the Los Angeles Clippers after a breakout season as the Heat’s backup to Hassan Whiteside, was arrested at the Marquis condominium building at 1100 Biscayne Boulevard.

According to the MiamiDade County Criminal Justice Online System, an order has been issued with a pretrial condition for Reed of no contact allowed with his wife, Jasmine Reed.

According to the arrest report, Reed grew upset after his wife told him that she wanted a divorce, with an argument following on the balcony of the condo. A struggle then ensued, when Reed’s wife took her purse and her husband attempted to take it away.

Reed’s wife said she was knocked to the ground while attempting to take her purse. Jasmine Reed said Willie Reed also grabbed her by the shirt, hair, wrist and arm. She said she then struck her husband with a glass candle.

Willie Reed said he never struck his wife, but did touch her hair, purse and shirt.

According to the arrest report, Jasmine Reed, “had red marks on her left wrist, right bicep, the right side of her chest and her back and swelling on her left foot.”

The couple’s youngest child was present during the incident.

In the wake of the arrest, the Clippers released a statement of, “We are aware of the situation in Miami regardingWillieReed, andare working to determine the facts around the situation.”

In an email to the Sun Sentinel, Miami-based attorney David OscarMarkus said, “Willie will continue to cooperate with the authorities, the Clippers, and the league so that they have all of the facts regarding this misdemeanor allegation.”

The NBA in concert with the National Basketball Players Association has adopted a “Policy on Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse” in the collective-bargaining agreement that went into effect July 1.

Per that policy, “Based on a finding of just cause, the Commissioner may fine, suspend, or dismiss and disqualify from any further association with the NBA and its teams a player who engages in prohibited conduct in violation of this Policy. Repeat offenders will be subject to enhanced discipline.”

Reedwas not retained by the Heat after the team drafted Kentucky big man Bam Adebayo in June and then signed Boston Celtics free-agent forward Kelly Olynyk in July.

Reed administratively withdrew from St. Louis University in 2011 after he was suspended at the start of the 2010-11 academic calendar for reported involvement in a sexual-assault incident that involved other players in the basketball program, as well. He was then reinstated before applying for the NBA draft, forgoing the final two years of his collegiate eligibility.

The 6-foot-11 center then went undrafted, playing in the NBA’s developmental league before catching on with the Brooklyn Nets in 2015-16 and the Heat this past season.

Reed has spent most of the offseason in South Florida working out at both AmericanAirlines Arena and with his personal trainer in the area.
