Secret’s in the sauce

Luxury skin cream may be hiding more than wrinkles.

Maybe those crazy cat ladies aren’t so nuts after all.

Luxury skin-care brand Hermetise has just released a $5,000 anti-aging skin regimen that purportedly uses feline excrement as the secret ingredient to fight wrinkles.

The three-piece Kopi Luwak Anti-pollution Brightening Oxygen Treatment, which retails for $4,994, promises to nourish, smooth and lift the skin to “form an intense age treatment” using the active ingredient of Kopi Luwak coffee, which the company says is the most expensive in the world.

The juice in these jars clearly ain’t just any old cuppa joe.

“What makes this coffee so unique? Well, it comes from the excrement of a very rare feline called the Civet, who lives in a remote part of Asia,” says the news release. “The Civet likes to eat cherry beans and while they love the taste, they are unable to break down the seed during digestion, which produces a particular fermentation. When the Civet does his, ‘business,’ what is left is newly fermented beans, which farmers then collect, wash, dry, sort, and finally roast them into this expensive and extraordinary coffee.”

How exotic. Even P.T. Barnum, often associated with the saying “there’s a sucker born every minute,” would have to admire whoever got the great idea to put cat feces in face cream and sell it for $1,600 a pop. Or poop. Take your pick.

The Anti-pollution Brightening Oxygen treatments list seven key benefits that target a range of skin issues. Hermetise says this line “increases moisture” (cat pee isn’t listed as an ingredient) while it “stimulates blood flow to aid collagen production” (perhaps you’ll be red-faced after

smearing cat poo all over your face).

“Advanced oxygen, skin tightening, skin brightening and anti-aging are just some of the benefits that come from consuming coffee so you can just imagine what the most expensive coffee in the world, Kopi Luwak, can do for your skin,” says Hermetise. “This skin care helps to achieve a face-lift, wrinkle-less appearance.”

Who knew the litter box held such elusive beauty benefits?
