Kiffin: Parr ‘right in the mix’

-

BOCA RATON — Florida Atlantic quarterback Jason Driskel did not practice Tuesday morning, but FAU coach Lane Kiffin expects the redshirt junior back for Wednesday morning’s session.

Tuesday marked the third practice Driskel has missed since last Thursday. One was due to an academic exam, the other two (Saturday and Tuesday) have been because of injury.

“I think he actually re-aggravated what it was,” Kiffin said. “I think he’ll be fine [Wednesday].”

Driskel has been competing with De’Andre Johnson to be FAU’s starting quarterback, but his absences have opened the door for Daniel Parr to receive some playing time. Parr, a redshirt sophomore, missed spring football with a foot injury and began preseason camp third on the depth chart.

On Tuesday, Parr worked with the second-team for the fourth time in the past five practices. Kiffin has been impressed with Parr, even saying “he’s right in the mix of this thing.”

“I don’t think he’s ever had a bad day,” Kiffin said. “I think he’s played really well. Seems to not get rattled.”

Parr directed a 26-play, 99-yard touchdown drive (“I didn’t even know that was possible,” Kiffin said.) during the team portion of practice.

Kiffin said he watched film of last year’s Western Kentucky-FAU game as part of his game-planning process, and noticed Parr didn’t flinch when he entered the game and his receiver greeted him with a dropped pass.

Next game: Navy at FAU, Sept. 1, 8 p.m., ESPNU
