Franklin III on ‘Last Chance U’
BOCA RATON —The second season of “Last Chance U” was pretty good, but it still doesn’t measure up to the first season, Florida Atlantic receiver John Franklin III said.
“It ain’t got nothing on Season One,” Franklin said Sunday during FAU’s Media Day. “I got a chance to watch it, it was pretty good. I think we had more characters on ours, personality-types. It was a good show, though.”
The review shouldn’t be too shocking, given that Franklin was one of the central figures in the first season of the Netflix series that chronicled the football team at East Mississippi Community College. Franklin transferred to EMCC from Florida State looking for playing time. He then signed with Auburn, graduated earlier this month, before transferring to FAU.
Franklin practiced for the first time with the Owls last Friday and figures to be a key part of the FAU receiving corps.
Franklin was a main character in Season One, leaping onto the national stage alongside teammates Ronald Ollie, D.J. Law and Wyatt Roberts. Coach Buddy Stephens and academic advisor Brittany Wagner also became recognizable names.
“There was no Ollie, the main attraction,” Franklin said of Season Two. “They missed some key personalities that could have made it better, in my opinion, a lot of people I talk to. It was still a good show.”
Next game: Navy at FAU, Sept. 1, 8 p.m., ESPNU
