Man killed his brother’s romantic rival, police say

It was the night of the Labor Day holiday when Boynton Beach police were called to a convenienc­e store and found Derrick Bernard Barber with a gunshot wound to his chest as he laid inside an SUV.

Barber and another man, Kunta Riddick, had been romantical­ly involved with the same woman, who had a child with Barber. The men had been feuding over her. And a week before the fatal shooting, the woman told police she had resumed her relationsh­ip with Barber, according to a Boynton

At around 9 p.m. on Sept. 4, Barber went to the convenienc­e store at 119 NE 10th Ave. where he and Riddick got into a fight in the parking lot.

Riddick’s twin brother, Kelcey Torrance Riddick, was inside the store that is east of Interstate 95 at North Seacrest Boulevard.

As Barber approached the entrance, Kelcey Riddick shot him, police said.

Riddick turned himself in to police Monday. He faces a charge of first-degree murder with a firearm. He also has an open case for the charges of traffickin­g in cocaine and heroin, marijuana possession with intent to sell and possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted Florida felon, according to county records.
