Richards may make season debut
CORAL GABLES — Miami coach Mark Richt said Monday morning he’s more confident Ahmmon Richards will be available Friday night when the 14th-ranked Hurricanes open Atlantic Coast Conference play at Duke.
During his weekly radio appearance on WQAM 560 Monday, Richt said Richards, who has been dealing with a nagging hamstring injury, went through Miami’s light Sunday-night practice and should be available in Durham this week.
“Ahmmon practiced [Sunday] night, and he looked good,” Richt said. “We didn’t do a lot on a Sunday, but he seems to be doing fine. My guess is he’ll be ready to go.”
Richards, a former Wellington High standout, was a Freshman All-American last season, finishing with 934 receiving yards to break Michael Irvin’s 31-year-old freshman receiving record.
A national audience will still get to see longtime rivals Miami and Florida State face off on Oct. 7 in Tallahassee but they won’t be watching in primetime.
The ACC announced on Monday the game — rescheduled due to Hurricane Irma — will kick off at 3:30 p.m. from Doak Campbell Stadium.
The game will be broadcast on either ABC or ESPN, with the league saying a decision on that will come after this week’s games.
The afternoon kickoff marks the first time since 2011 that the game hasn’t been shown nationally at 8 p.m.
