Agency is looking to hire the unemployed for “disaster relief ” jobs, including cleanup.

South Florida still has a lot of tree and other debris around from Hurricane Irma’s destruction three weeks ago.

CareerSource Broward is looking to hire the unemployed for more than 180 “disaster relief” jobs including cleanup of debris.

Those interested should attend a job fair from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at CareerSource Broward’s Central career center, 2610 Oakland Park Blvd., Fort Lauderdale.

“Many of our residents were severely impacted by the recent storm, and we want to do our part to help relieve the economic burdens that some families are now facing,” said Mason Jackson, president of CareerSource Broward. “Not only do these jobs provide much-needed employment for those who may be experiencing financial hardships, but it also allows individuals to give back to their community and assist with the local recovery efforts right here in Broward County.”

Individuals who qualify for disaster relief employment are those who are temporarily or permanently laid off as a consequence of the disaster, dislocated workers and individuals who are long-term unemployed.

CareerSource Broward was awarded a National Dislocated Worker Grant to provide temporary employment for Broward County residents affected by Hurricane Irma. The grant is administered by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.

DEO also has set up a portal for Hurricane Irma recovery and cleanup jobs. See debris pickup and other jobs at Irma .EmployFlorida.com.
