With 48 shots on goal on Saturday night, the Panthers registered the most shots since they fired 51 shots on goal against Boston in March 2016. It was the first time the Panthers had at least 48 shots in a win since Feb. 2014 against Toronto.

The Panthers struggled to find the back of the net against Tampa Bay through the first two periods, scoring twice despite 40 shots on goal. But in the third period, the Panthers scored on three of their eight shots on goal.

Panthers goalie James Reimer understands what Vasilevskiy went through. Reimer has faced at least 48 shots six times in his eightyear NHL career. He won four of them.

“As long as you’re making the saves, it’s great,” Reimer said. “It’s one of those things where as a team, you never want to give up 48, but as a goalie, when you’re making saves like he was for most of the game, you’re just in the game, you’re in a rhythm. We beat him the way we needed to beat him: get him traffic and getting rebounds.” …

In the final minute of the third period on Saturday night, the Panthers had to kill off a delay of game penalty after officials ruled that Colton Sceviour delayed the game by sending the puck over the glass.

With the goalie pulled, Tampa Bay had a 6-on-4 advantage as it tried to tie the game late.

“They just thought that it went straight out,” Boughner said. “I was almost positive that it hit the stick. I was watching the review on the bench. When it went up on the jumbotron, I could clearly see that it hit the stick. Disturbing putting ourselves in a hole like that and having a kill.”
