A 26-year-old Miramar man who was riding a bicycle on South University Drive early Sunday was killed after he was struck from behind and thrown up onto the hood and windshield of the car that hit him.

Jonadin Saint-Louis died at the scene of the collision that happened in the 1200 block of South University at 3:19 a.m., according to Pembroke Pines police.

Saint-Louis was in the designated bicycle lane and within a half mile of his home when he was hit, according to police.

The location is west of North Perry Airport, about midway between Pembroke Road and Pines Boulevard.

Police said Alexandra Malikah Olivier, 19, of Miramar, was driving a 2013 Hyundai Tucson in the northbound lane of South University Drive when she struck the bicycle and Saint-Louis, who was also traveling north.

Saint-Louis “remained on the vehicle briefly and then fell to the roadway,” police said in a news release.

Olivier and a passenger in the Hyundai, Jennie Santiago, 20, of Hollywood, told police they did not see the bicycle before the crash.

“They said they heard a ‘bang’ and the airbags deployed filling the vehicle’s interior with smoke,” police said. “Fearing the vehicle was on fire, they both jumped from the moving vehicle and suffered minor injuries from impacting the roadway.”

The Hyundai continued traveling north on University Drive, until it struck a concrete pole in the 100 block of North University Drive, police said. “A passerby reached into the vehicle and turned off the ignition to prevent any further damage,” investigators said.

Olivier and Santiago were taken by Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue to Memorial Regional Hospital and Memorial Hospital Pembroke for treatment, police said.

The mangled bicycle remained on the roadway for more than four hours after the collision while investigators examined the scene.

Police said the crash remains under investigation.
