Knights don’t move up in polls
The UCF football team rolled to a win over UConn and improved to 9-0, but the victory didn’t have an overwhelming impact on college football poll voters.
The Knights remained No. 14 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll and No. 12 in the latest Amway coaches’ poll released Sunday.
Memphis moved up to No. 18 in the AP poll and No. 17 in the coaches’ poll. UCF rival USF moved up to No. 23 in the AP poll and No. 20 in the coaches’ poll.
The next College Football Playoff rankings, which dictate postseason destinations, will be released Tuesday morning. UCF is currently ranked No. 18 in the playoff rankings.
The American Athletic Conference champion is expected to earn a New Year’s Six bowl berth, with the Group of 5 representative slated to go to the Peach Bowl this year.
After winning six consecutive games and rattling off an eight game unbeaten streak, the UCF men’s soccer team fell 2-1 to SMU Sunday in the American Athletic Conference championship game.
The Knights (8-6-2) finished runner-up in the AAC regular season and the tournament. It was the first championship match appearance for UCF since 2004.
The Knights held a majority of the possession, but conceded the opening goal off a corner kick by SMU. UCF’s late equalizer was a cross that found the back of the net after bouncing off a defender. SMU’s Emil Cuello scored the game-winner from 28 yards out.
Next football game: No. 18 UCF Noon, ESPNU
