Daniel Parr plans Duquesne transfer
BOCA RATON — After being benched three games into the season, Florida Atlantic quarterback Daniel Parr has decided to transfer to Duquesne.
Parr made the announcement via social media Friday evening.
“I would like to thank you to FAU and all of OwlNation for the last 3 years,” Parr wrote on Instagram. “I’ve learned so much and made so many brothers for life. I love all my teammates and wish nothing but the best for them.”
A former Dwyer standout, Parr was replaced by Jason Driskel after the Owls defeated BethuneCookman. Driskel then led them to 10 straight victories, including a win against Akron in the Boca Raton Bowl. He was also named the game’s most valuable player.
Parr made the decision to leave three days after coach Lane Kiffin discussed the upcoming spring competition at quarterback. In addition to Driskel, the Owls return De’Andre Johnson and add Oklahoma transfer Chris Robison.
Johnson was initially considered the favorite to be the starter until blood clots ended his season in September.
“It’s going to be a really entertaining quarterback competition next year, too,” Kiffin said. “As great as Jason played, that’s how we build our program. There’s always going to be competition.”
A redshirt sophomore, Parr will be eligible immediately because Duquesne is a Division IAA school. He will have two years of eligibility remaining. Parr, who was recruited by former coach Charlie Partridge, ended his FAU career with 58 completions in 111 attempts for 694 yards with four touchdowns and four interceptions.
“I would like to thank Coach Partridge and his staff for bringing me to FAU,” Parr wrote. “That being said I feel like it’s time for me to move on and do what’s best for my future.”
