David Byrne, Miami Beach

-

World-music crusader and former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne will bring the tour supporting his new album, “American Utopia,” to the Fillmore Miami Beach on Sept. 29.

Reserved seat tickets will cost $56.50-$150, and go on sale 10 a.m. today at LiveNation.com and by calling 800-745-3000. Tickets also will be available at the Fillmore box office at 1700 Washington Ave.

Performing as part of a 12-piece band, Byrne’s tour is a showcase for “American Utopia” (Nonesuch Records), a “forlorn, hilarious portrait” of the nation [New York Times]. Byrne describes the record as a depiction of “who we are, who we hope to be.”

The album is the first solo release from Byrne in 14 years.

Byrne is best known for leading the artfully nerdy New York rock quartet Talking Heads through a decade of brilliant musicmaking on such albums as “Talking Heads 77,” “More Songs About Buildings and Food,” “Fear of Music,” “Remain in Light,” “Speaking in Tongues,” “Little Creatures” and “True Stories,” as well as “Stop Making Sense,” the soundtrack from the 1984 Jonathan Demme documentary.

Since the final Talking Heads album, 1988’s “Naked,” Byrne has roamed his imagination and the world, writing books and exploring the music of Africa and South America via his Luaka Bop label.
