Cops: Man tried to kill his friend

A man wanted in Fort Laud­erdale for try­ing to kill his friend was ar­rested more than a thou­sand miles away — in Evansville, In­di­ana, po­lice said Mon­day.

Dah­mad Rashard Heath was be­ing sought in con­nec­tion with the April 6 shoot­ing of Oran Jack­son, 31, on the 2600 block of North­west 22nd St., ac­cord­ing to Fort Laud­erdale po­lice.

Jack­son sur­vived the shoot­ing and was treated at Broward Health Med­i­cal Cen­ter for mul­ti­ple bul­let wounds.

Both men are res­i­dents of Fort Laud­erdale. The mo­tive for the shoot­ing isn’t known, po­lice said.

Heath, 28, is ac­cused of at­tempted mur­der and po­lice named him as a sus­pect in the shoot­ing on April10 and said a war­rant had been is­sued for his ar­rest.

Cir­cum­stances sur­round­ing his ar­rest were not im­me­di­ately avail­able.

Heath was booked into In­di­ana’s Van­der­burgh County jail shortly be­fore 1 a.m. Mon­day, records show. He is await­ing ex­tra­di­tion to South Florida.
