Mets RHP Jacob deGrom (5-3, 1.69 ERA, 1.007 WHIP) vs. Marlins RHP Pablo Lopez (major league debut): Lopez will make his first major league start Saturday night against the Mets, as the Marlins host Venezuelan Heritage Night at Marlins Park. Lopez, a 22-year-old Venezuelan, had not pitched past High-A entering this season, but impressed first at Double-A Jacksonville and then at Triple-A New Orleans. He did not allow a run in his first 22 minor league innings this season. Lopez came to Miami as part of the trade that sent David Phelps to Seattle. … deGrom was supposed to start Friday night for the Mets, but was pushed back a day to tend to a family matter. Corey Oswalt started in his place. deGrom has been one of baseball’s best pitchers in an otherwise sour season for the Mets. His 1.69 ERA leads all qualified major league pitchers and his 11.2 strikeouts per nine innings is ninth-best in baseball. In two starts against the Marlins this season, deGrom has allowed four runs in 13 innings with 14 strikeouts.
