Pompano Beach is planning another mixed-use project — this one a 6-story apartment building with 327 units.

Fairfield at Pompano Beach is on a 3-acre site at 601 N. Federal Highway, at the northwest corner of Northeast Sixth Street.

The rental apartments will be one-, two-and threebedroom units.

The ground floor will be commercial and office space, the residence lobby, amenities and structured parking, and even some apartments with groundfloor patios directly facing Northeast Sixth Street “for an active pedestrian experience,” according to papers filed at City Hall by Michael Vonder Meulen, of Keith and Associates, Inc.

The property abuts Community Park, the Pompano Beach Amphitheater, and the Emma Lou Olsen Civic Center.

The focus on creating projects that will encourage people to walk from their homes to shops and restaurants “will support an influx of the creative class and younger generations who often place significant value on areas that support an urban lifestyle,” according to Vonder Meulen.

The project is pending building permits.

Pompano Beach has multiple mixed-use projects pending including: Developer Adam Adache assembled a city block in plans for a 10-story building. Heritage at Pompano Station, the project at 400 N. Flagler Ave. will have 116 units in a 7-story building.

That project is under construction.
