NextEra Energy, parent company to Florida Power & Light Co., has been ranked by Fortune magazine as No. 21 of 57 companies that “change the world.”

This is the first year the Juno Beach-based NextEra Energy has been recognized on Fortune’s “Change the World” list, which honors businesses that have had a positive social impact. In compiling the annual list, Fortune said it also looks at business results, degree of innovation, and corporate integration of strategies.

Fortune noted NextEra’s leadership in renewable energy, particularly for striking a large solar panel supply deal in March with China-based JinkoSolar Holding Co. Under the agreement, JinkoSolar will supply NextEra Energy with roughly 7 million solar panels over about four years.

A portion of those panels will be manufactured at a new JinkoSolar plant in Jacksonville, the company’s first U.S. factory, according to FPL spokesman Mark Bubriski.

NextEra Energy is the only energy company from the Americas named to the 2018 list, and one of only two electric companies in the world to be included.

FPL said it operates 14 major solar energy centers and more than 200 smaller solar installations. On July 31, FPL announced construction of four new solar plants in Miami-Dade, St. Lucie, Volusia and Columbia counties.

The top 10 companies on Fortune’s “Change the World” list are: Reliance Jio, Merck, Bank of America, Inditex, Alibaba Group, Kroger, Xylem, ABB, Weight Watchers International and Hughes Network Systems.
