Sleuth your way to $10K
Fort Lauderdale beach scavenger hunt boasts a hefty top prize.
The Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce is throwing a scavenger hunt this weekend, and the playing field is the beach.
On Saturday, Nov. 10, anyone with a smartphone can join “The Amazing Hunt: Fort Lauderdale Beach” and hunt for clues along 1.5 miles of shoreline south of Sunrise Boulevard.
Up for grabs is $25,000 in prizes, ranging from $800 South Beach Wine and Food Festival passes to a two-night, $10,000 stay in the presidential suite of the W Fort Lauderdale.
The scavenger hunt, hosted by the Chamber of Commerce’s Beach Council, will kick off with a 9:30 a.m. ceremony at Beach Place. Players must first download a scavenger hunt-themed smartphone app called Scavify. From there, registered individuals and teams can comb the shoreline for clues and solve challenges.
The hunt is designed to steer locals to storefronts along A1A during snowbird season, says Ari Glassman, whose Beach Council is made up of members representing 24 beachfront businesses.
“Locals do go to the beach, but we sometimes forget the new hot spots in our back yard,” Glassman says. “This lets people get a good taste of what’s there.”
Teams who solve the most scavenger-hunt clues by noon get first choice of the Amazing Hunt’s 29 prizes. Other highlights include a $200 beachside dinner at El Vez; eight Fort Lauderdale Water Taxi passes valued at $212; four three-day passes to the Riptide Music Festival; a catamaran cruise for four; and $200 in Steak 954 gift cards.
