Alonso questionable after missing 1st practice of ’18
DAVIE — Miami Dolphins linebacker Kiko Alonso is questionable to play in Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers after suffering an ankle injury in practice.
Alonso did not practice on Friday, according to the latest Dolphins’ injury report. It was the first practice Alonso has missed all season.
Alonso has been a standout defender for the Dolphins, leading the team with 83 total tackles, which ranks second in the NFL. Alonso also has three interceptions, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and six pass deflections.
If the Dolphins are forced to play without Alonso, they will rely on first-year linebackers Jerome Baker and Raekwon McMillian to carry the load with backup Stephone Anthony in the mix. Mike Hull also is on the active roster. Reserve linebacker Martrell Spaight was waived Friday to make room on the roster for offensive guard Isaac Asiata.
Alonso is one of five Dolphins listed as questionable against the Packers.
Return specialist and receiver Jakeem Grant is questionable after being limited in practice this week due to an Achilles injury.
Starting offensive linemen Laremy Tunsil (left knee) and Ja’Wuan James (right knee) are questionable and will be game-time decisions, Dolphins coach Adam Gase said on Friday.
Tight end A.J. Derby, who was a full participant in practice this week while recovering from a foot injury, is also questionable.
Dolphins running back Kenyan Drake (shoulder) also was limited in practice Friday, but not listed as questionable.
Defensive end Charles Harris (calf ), a former first-round pick, practiced for the second straight day Friday, but will miss Sunday’s game. Gase said Harris has made significant progress in his recovery, but is not ready to return.
Quarterback Ryan Tannehill (shoulder) was also ruled out for his fifth consecutive game. Brock Osweiler was named starting quarterback on Wednesday.
Receiver Kenny Stills (groin), receiver DeVante Parker (quadricep), center Travis Swanson (elbow) and right guard Jesse Davis (elbow) were other offensive starters listed on the injury report, but were full participants in practice all week.
Cornerback Xavien Howard (ankle), safety Reshad Jones (shoulder), safety T.J. McDonald (knee), defensive end Robert Quinn (ankle) were the only defensive starters listed, but they were full participants.
