Seriously. It’s going to get chilly in South Florida

- By Randy Roguski South Florida Sun Sentinel

Admit it: You’ve been itching to dig out your sweaters, haven’t you?

This week will be your chance. The same winter weather system that dumped up to 17 inches of snow in the Midwest will bring a cold snap in South Florida.

Forecasters predict low temperatures around 50 on Tuesday and Wednesday night, with a high in the mid-60s on Wednesday.

Temperatures normally hover in the 70s and 80s this time of year, said Larry Kelly, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, but cold fronts are not abnormal.

So go ahead and slip into a jacket. Just don’t complain to your family up north, where a winter storm brought heavy snow late Sunday and early Monday to a stretch from northeast Kansas into south-central Iowa and northwest Illinois.

Kansas Gov. Jeff Colyer declared a state of emergency. More than 1,270 flights were canceled nationwide, including more than

800 at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago.

Flight problems rippled down to South Florida: six cancellations and 149 delays at Fort LauderdaleHollywood

International Airport as of Monday afternoon; two cancellations and 47 delays at Palm Beach International Airport; and nine cancellations and 103 delays at Miami International Airport.

Snow or rain changing to snow was forecast into

Monday night from the Ohio Valley into western Pennsylvania, upstate New York and Northern New England.

In South Florida? I’ll be back into the 80s by the weekend. But don’t worry. It’ll be winter again someday.
