Keep a sweater or light jacket handy.

A cold front that has swept across South Florida is bringing lower temperatures and blustery winds through the region.

The cooler conditions will last into Friday before temperatures creep up again.

The cloud cover that arrived with the cold front Wednesday is forecast to give way to sunnier skies as high pressure builds over South Florida with drier and more stable air, according to the National Weather Service.

It will be mostly sunny Thursday with a high of only 75. The north winds that arrived with the cold front will be shifting to the east at 11 to 13 mph. It will remain cool on Thursday night with a forecast low of 64 in the metropolitan areas and even lower temperatures in the interior regions.

Temperatures start to increase slightly on Friday with a high near 77. Blustery winds from the east will persist — with gusts up to 20 mph.

It warms up through the weekend. Saturday is forecast to be mostly sunny with a high near 80 with brisk winds from the east.

Sunday’s high will also be near 80 as clouds move in and bring a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Because of the wind direction and speed, the threat of rip currents will be increasing at all South Florida beaches late this week and into the weekend, the weather service said.
