Clean Water Rule must be preserved

As a Registered Nurse, I agree with the editorial, (Invading Seas: DeSantis must tackle climate change, sea level rise as part of environmental plan, Nov. 28). The projected catastrophic economic and environmental losses are still preventable if we act now. However, the Trump administration is currently moving to repeal the Clean Water Rule, which protects the drinking water of over 117 million Americans, including Floridians.

Florida is nothing without its clean, clear, beautiful bodies of water and beaches, many of which have been closed due to toxic blue-green algae blooms and red tide. The alarming health effects of these toxic blooms range from irritated eyes and throat to dementia and liver failure.

Our new governor and senator need to make protection of Florida’s and the country’s water a priority, while focusing on the causes of climate change. Step one is to preserve the Clean Water Rule.
