U.S. already leads in reducing emissions

-

We are indeed among the leaders in reducing emissions, due mainly to increased natural gas. We can do better, as some countries are. The fact is the U.S. produced over 5.1 billion metric tons of CO2 in 2017. As the latest National Climate Assessment states, we need to be a zero carbon economy by 2050. A moreof-the-same decade of only incremental progress will put us on a path toward 3 degrees Celcius warming within the lifetime of today’s children.

The world’s leading experts in economics and science recommend a price on carbon emissions. Refunding that fee is critical for public support. Canada recently legislated such a plan. Last week, similar legislation, the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act, was introduced in Congress with bipartisan support.
