Jones undergoes shoulder surgery
AVENTURA Miami Dolphins standout safety Reshad Jones says he underwent successful right shoulder surgery this week to repair an injury he played with for much of last season.
“Surgery was a success and I give God the glory!! I promise I [won’t] let up!” Jones wrote in an Instagram post on Friday.
Jones suffered the injury in Week 2 last season, missing only two weeks to nurse the injury. He played in 14 games in 2018 with 13 starts, totaling 72 tackles, three interceptions and nine passes defensed. Jones also returned an interception for a touchdown during the final game of the season against the Bills. It was the sixth defensive touchdown of his career, placing him behind only Jason Taylor (nine) on the Dolphins’ all-time list.
A timetable for Jones’ recovery has not yet been determined.
Jones — a two-time Pro Bowl player who has been with the Dolphins since 2010 — is expected to make $17.1 million next season, his first under new coach Brian Flores.
Jones has three years remaining on his contract, which calls for a team option in 2022.
The Dolphins will likely be without Jones when the team’s offseason workout program begins on April 1.
