Floating home rises with sea level

When you’re kicking back in your new $5.9 million, solar-powered floating home, you won’t mind how high the sea level rises — because you’ll rise right along with it.

This 75-foot-long creation by Arkup LLC is entirely self-sustaining, the company says. You can harvest and purify sea water. If a hurricane threatens, just plant its hydraulic pilings through water up to 25 feet deep, raise the home above the water line and be “stable as a home on land” amid Category 4 winds, the company says.

Want your friends and family to enjoy the end times with you? Not to worry — it has 2,600 square feet of indoor living space, including four bedrooms on the second level. With terrace and balcony space, it totals 4,350 square feet.

Arkup finished its first livable yacht last fall and is working on its second. Based on renderings on its website, the company envisions entire villages of these things surrounding piers and islands.

The home, furnished by Artefacto Home Staging, is anchored off 44 Star Island and can be seen by motorists on the MacArthur Causeway.

Arkup is offering tours to potential buyers during the Miami Yacht Festival from Feb. 15 to 18 and also plans to make it available for short-term rentals and charters. Go to Arkup.com for more details.
