Beware DeSantis plan for Broward School Board

Broward residents should be very wary of the supposed changes that Gov. Ron DeSantis may bring to the Broward School Board. This new “reformist” governor has already replaced Democrats in our county with Republicans. What better way to swing Broward more toward the right than to replace our board with party members that are more like-minded to the governor and the Florida Legislature.

DeSantis may provide the rhetoric of reform but his measures still must clear the very conservative Legislature.

A newly appointed board will not only be controlled through the mandates of the budget but also the ideology of the Republican-led government.

As much as some Broward school board members may be out of touch (citing their children attended Broward as much as 40 years ago), they remain better than a Republican-appointed board.

We should not fall for this ploy even as we view the year-old events and their aftermath with dismay.
