House OKs importing cheap drugs from Canada
TALLAHASSEE — Floridians could eventually gain access to cheaper Canadian prescription drugs under legislation passed Thursday by the state House, a top priority of Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.
The GOP-controlled House voted 93-22 on Thursday for the measure, which would create a prescription drug importation program that would have to be approved by the federal Food and Drug Administration. A similar bill is moving in the state Senate and the two versions must be reconciled to win final passage.
"The United States pays more for prescription drugs than anywhere else in the world," DeSantis said in a statement. "In Florida, we can change that by employing safe, common sense solutions such as importing FDA approved prescription drugs from Canada."
The chief sponsor, Republican Rep. Tom Leek of Daytona Beach, said the measure would give Floridians an opportunity to pay less for vital prescription drugs. U.S.

This rabbit installation comes from Parer Studio artist Amanda Parer in Australia where “the bunnies are sort of a rodent or a pest,’’ said Hammontree. “They leave this trail of ecological destruction where they go.”
The installation is intended to “represent the fairy tale animals from our childhood – a furry innocence, frolicking through idyllic fields,’’ according to Parer Studio’s website. But the display is also has an environmental component. The sheer size of the rabbits represent, “the elephant in the room,” the problem, like our environmental impact, big but easily ignored, according to the website.
The installation runs through April 21. Tickets cost $5. Children ages 2 and younger and Pinecrest Gardens members get in for free. For more information, visit www.pinecrestgardens.org or call 305-669-6690.
