Ultimate Software to expand in Sunrise

- By Lisa J. Huriash

Weston-based Ultimate Software will open a new office in Sunrise within a well-known corporate park.

Ultimate Software is a publicly traded, Weston-based software developer designed to make companies’ human resources management “simpler.” Companies use Ultimate Software’s products to manage their human resources functions, including payroll, benefits, time and labor management.

The company agreed Feb. 3 to be sold to San Franciscobased private equity firm Hellman & Friedman for $11 billion.

The expansion is intended “to support our local growth,” said a company spokeswoman. There is no timetable to open the 100,000-square-foot office. This is the first South Florida location outside Weston, which has 13 offices there, and another 24 across the U.S. and six outside of the country.

“We’ve been talking to them a long time, watching them grow,” said Sunrise Economic Development Director Lou Sandora. “It’s another good corporate citizen in the community.”

The move will be within the Sawgrass International Corporate Park, the 612-acre site home to several global headquarters such as HBO’s Latin American headquarters, and Pet Supermarket.

It’s Broward’s largest corporate park with 113 buildings ranging from one to six stories and 30,000 employees combined. This includes office, industrial, manufacturing and distribution buildings and it’s almost at capacity, Sandora said. Construction is expected to begin for other buildings “because there’s such high demand for office space in Sunrise.”

Plans have been submitted for a 108,000-square-foot building and a 150,000-square-foot building.
