Heat sign Silva, Martin for camp

- By Ira Winderman

LAS VEGAS — The Miami Heat firmed up their offseason roster by providing a payoff to two members of their summer-league roster, guard Jeremiah Martin and forward Chris Silva.

Each was signed to an Exhibit 10 contract, a deal that is limited to a $50,000 guarantee and allows the Heat to potentially funnel both to their G League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce, after training camp.

The agreements also would allow the Heat to eventually convert either to a two-way contract, but, for the moment, leaves those two slots vacant.

Teams can carry a maximum of 20 players during the offseason, before a mandatory cut to no more than 15 during the regular season, not counting the two two-way berths.

The Heat will play at least one more game at the Las Vegas summer league, before eventually turning to their offseason workouts at AmericanAirlines Arena.

Of the two players signed, Silva has made the strongest impression, utilized by summer-league coach Eric Glass in starting lineups with firstround pick Tyler Herro and contract players Duncan Robinson, Yante Maten and Kendrick Nunn. Silva currently is dealing with a bruised knee.

Silva, who became the first player in University solid play has led to a Heat contract. of South Carolina history to total at least 700 rebounds and 500 made free throws, has appeared in six summer-league games (all starts), averaging 7.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists in 18.3 minutes, shooting .565 from the field and 80 percent from the line.

He played four seasons for the Gamecocks, appearing in 32 games (all starts) as a senior, averaging 15.2 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.94 blocks in 26.8 minutes, named to All-SEC first team and the SEC All-Defensive Team.

Martin, who finished 10th on Memphis’ alltime scoring list with 1,625 career points, has appeared in six summer games, averaging 5.0 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.16 steals in 19.1 minutes, shooting .435 percent from the field.
