Dining deals in Delray Beach
The slow season for tourism means a blitz of summer restaurant promotions for food lovers in Delray Beach, hosting its weeklong feast Dine Out Downtown Delray Aug. 1-7.
Nearly 40 restaurants along or near Delray’s lively Atlantic Avenue and Pineapple Grove neighborhoods will be part of the gluttony of riches. During the annual promotion, which began in 2016, eateries will offer $40 multi-course dinners and $20 multi-course lunches, not including tax and tip. Food classes, chef-studded special events and select $10 deals are also part of the lineup.
Participating restaurants include 3rd and 3rd, Beg for More Izakaya, Brule Bistro and its recently opened sister restaurant Rose’s Daughter, Proper Ice Cream, Deck 84, Death or Glory, Ramen Lab Eatery, Vic & Angelos, The Office, the Grove, Tin Roof, Silverball Museum and Wine House Social.
Food and drink discounts aside, arguably the biggest Dine Out event is a “Hell’s Kitchen Winners Dinner” at Salt7 (7 p.m., $95), a five-course wine dinner and dessert featuring chefs Paul Nidermann (Season 9 winner), Salt7 executive chef Kimberly Ryan (Season 16 winner), Michelle Tribble (Season 17 winner) and LaTasha McCutchen (Season 13 winner).
There’s also a dumpling-making class at Delray Goodies at 6 p.m. Aug. 5 ($35). Meanwhile, Death or Glory will offer a Mai Tai cocktail class at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 1 ($45) and throw a Bar Brawl at 9 p.m. Aug. 7 ($10-$25), pitting cocktail contestants Jessie Bell of El Camino against Joshua Leith from Eau Palm Beach. Prime will offer a “Lobster Frenzy!” at 4 p.m. Aug. 1 ($39.95) with three onepound Maine lobsters, corn on the cob, boiled potato and choice of soup or salad. And Rose’s Daughter will host a “Midsummer Night’s Dream” fundraiser for Delray Beach Public Library at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 7 ($30), with specialty cocktails and Neapolitan pizza, polenta, mozzarella and zabaglione stations.
Dine Out Downtown Delray, of course, is the city’s answer to the glut of restaurant promotions kicking off in August and September, including Miami Spice and the justrebranded Greater Fort Lauderdale Restaurant Months, which both start on Aug. 1.
The Grove, described by Sun Sentinel food czar Michael Mayo as an “oasis of civility that has grown into something special” in his three-and-a-half-star review, will feature a TBA dinner menu. Eclectic café Dada will offer a $40 three-course dinner, with togarashi-seared tuna for starters, jalapeno-agavebraised salmon or shake and bake pork chops for entrée, and warm banana bread or dark chocolate mousse for dessert.
Rose’s Daughter, chef Suzanne Perotto’s trattoria opening Aug. 7, will offer a three-course dinner ($44) featuring lamb meatballs and housemade burrata for appetizer, a choice of short-rib pappardelle, linguini and clams and smoked chicken gnocchi for entrée, and choice of frangipane tiramisu or spumoni for dessert. Delray Beach steakhouse Prime is dishing out another strong deal: halfprice entrees from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 6 only (normally $27.95-$52.95).
