Will J-Lo perform at Super Bowl?

- By Johnny Diaz

Jennifer Lopez is no stranger to performing in Miami, having rocked Bayfront Park and the AmericanAirlines Arena.

Could Hard Rock Stadium be next — when it hosts SuperBowl LIV?

Citing multiple sources, celebrity magazine US Weekly is reporting that the entertainer is in talks with the National Football League to perform during the coveted halftime show February 2.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly last summer, Lopez also suggested that she would be open to the opportunity.

“Yeah, [I’ve] thought about the Super Bowl and it’s in Miami. It’s a big deal, but we’ll see,” said Lopez. “They make their own decisions over there [at the NFL].”

On Wednesday morning, Lopez was a guest on “LIVE with Kelly and Ryan” where Ryan Seacrest asked her whether she was planning to be in Miami for the Super Bowl.

Lopez replied, “I don’t know.” When he asked her whether it would be a great thing to say yes to in theory, she said, “In theory, yes, it would be. It’s something that we talked about for many years. It would be nice. It would be nice. I can’t say I wouldn’t love it.

Lopez’s publicists could not be reached for comment Wednesday about the reported discussions.

But having Jenny from the Block perform in Miami, which has become her second home, would make sense at least to her legion of South Florida fans and community leaders.

On July 24 when Lopez turned 50, the city of Miami Beach declared her birthday as Jennifer Lopez Day because of her longtime connections to the island city. Lopez also wrapped up her U.S. “It’s My Party” tour that week at the AmericanAirlines Arena.

Lopez, who formerly owned an estate on North Bay Road in Miami Beach, spends time with fiancée and former New York Yankees player Alex Rodriguez and their blended family in Coral Gables. And Lopez has filmed several of her music videos in the region from Islamorada and Key Biscayne to South Beach and Fort Lauderdale.

The Super Bowl halftime show, although typically 15 minutes, is a prominent gig in front of TV’s largest audience. This will be Miami’s 11th time hosting the game.

Other performers who have taken the big stage in Miami include Prince in 2007, The Who in 2010 and Gloria Estefan with Stevie Wonder and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy in 1999.

In February, an online fan petition was circulating demanding that Miami rapper Pitbull perform at the 2020 Super Bowl show.
