Miami Carol City facing rugged task

- By Adam Lichtenstein South Florida Sun Sentinel

Week 4 is here, games this week.

Two of Broward County’s top teams travel out of South Florida for big games, but most are right here in Broward and Palm Beach counties.

Adam Lichtenstein predicts the outcome of this week’s most interesting contests involving teams from Broward and Palm Beach. He is 21-6 this season.

All games are Friday at 7 p.m. unless otherwise noted. and there’s

slate of

Miami Carol City (1-2) at ChaminadeMadonna (3-0): One of Miami-Dade County’s best teams crosses the county line to take on Chaminade, which we have ranked second in the county. The Chiefs are 1-2, but those two losses have come to Miami Northwestern and Miami Central, two of the best teams in the state. This should be a great game, and it could come down to who has a ball bounce the right way. Atlantic (1-0) at Glades Central (2-1), 6 p.m.: The Raiders come into this game with some disadvantages. They suffered a big home loss to Palm Beach Lakes, and the short week gives them little time to recover before hosting Atlantic. The Eagles, on the other hand, are well-rested and have not played since Aug. 23, thanks to Hurricane Dorian. As long as Atlantic isn’t rusty, the Eagles should take this game. University School (2-1) at Western (2-0): In this battle of two Davie programs, the two sides could not be coming off two more different games. Missing quarterback Nick Vattiato, the Sharks struggled to move the ball and suffered a shutout at the hands of McArthur. The Wildcats, on the other hand, blew out Miami Springs 74-0. Although Vattiato should be back, Western’s defense is just as good, if not better, than McArthur’s defense.

Forest Hill (2-0) at Palm Beach Gardens (2-0), 6: Both of these teams are off to good starts. Gardens has looked exceptional in its first two games, outscoring opponents 96-3. Forest Hill hasn’t been quite as dominant, but the Falcons have two wins nonetheless. This game should be the Gators’ first major test to prove that they’re back to their winning ways.

Monarch (3-0) at Stoneman Douglas (2-0), Thursday, 7: This Thursday night game pits two undefeated big schools against each other. Monarch has dominated the weaker opponents it has faced so far, outscoring them 139-8. Stoneman Douglas should be a step up. The Eagles’ offensive line has been a strength, though, and if the linemen can give quarterback Matthew O’Dowd and running back Brian Smith time to make plays, this game should be close. Palm Beach Central (2-1) at Wellington (0-3), 6:30: This is one of Palm Beach County’s biggest rivalry games, and hopefully, this year’s edition will be competitive. Palm Beach Central has been dominant since its Week 1 loss to Atlantic, while Wellington has struggled mightily. Unfortunately for the Wolverines, this week’s game does not look great for them.

Central

38,

American Heritage (2-1) at Jacksonville Trinity Christian (1-2), 7:30: The Patriots head to Jacksonville this week to take on perennial power Trinity Christian. The Conquerors are 1-2, but those two losses came against powerhouses Columbia and Venice. American Heritage cannot take this team lightly. The Patriots struggled mightily to run the ball last week against Miramar, averaging only 1.2 yards per carry. They will need to do better than that this week, as Trinity Christian features Clemson commit Fred Davis and Georgia Tech commit Miles Brooks in the secondary.
