5 stabbed at plant; suspect in custody
Five people were stabbed Wednesday at a manufacturing plant in Tallahassee, according to police.
It was shortly after 8:30 a.m. when police were notified about multiple stabbings in an industrial area near the 2000 block ofMaryland Circle, which is located close to Interstate 10.
Police later said the five were stabbed at a company called Dyke Industries, a building supply company.
The victims were given immediate medical attention, and a suspect was taken into custody a short while later, police said.
According to investigators, workers at the plant were able to slow the attacker when he was fleeing, allowing police to capture him.
Police identified the attacker as a Dykes Industries employee, AntwannD. Brown, during a news conference carried live by television stationWTXL.
Witnesses at the scene told the station that Brown had recently been fired.
“It is a big very big scene right nowandwe’re trying to figure out why thishappenedandwhatactually caused this person to do this,” Tallahassee Police Officer Damon Miller told reporters, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.
In a statement, TallahasseeMemorial HealthCare reported that one of the five people hospitalized was inserious condition, twowere in fair condition and two were in good condition. A Brightline passenger train and a freight train were stopped at the Northeast 38th Street railroad crossing in Oakland Park for several hours after the Brightline train struck a Maserati, officials said.
