Top 5 teams are all keeping pace
If there has been one certainty this season in Palm Beach County, the top 10 rankings have been in a state of flux all year. There wasn’t much movement at the top as Palm Beach Lakes continues to show they are the dominant team with an impressive, 26-point win over visiting Dwyer. Atlantic, Palm Beach Central, and Palm Beach Gardens all kept pace. All games start at 6:30 p.m. on Friday unless noted.
1. (1) Palm Beach Lakes (7-0): The Rams exacted revenge over Dwyer in a rematch of last season’s Class 7A regional semifinal as they topped the Panthers 53-27. Palm Beach Lakes has won 14 consecutive regular-season games. Once again, the 1-2 punch of quarterback Trevon Taylor (4 TD passes) and Antonio Outler (225 yards rushing, 4 TDs) turned in strong performances. Jalen Jones (104 yards receiving, 2 TDs) also joined in the cause. Next: vs. Martin County
2. (2) Atlantic (5-2): The Eagles picked up a huge road win over Columbia (Lake City) 35-21 as Bryon Jones (3 rushing TDs), Jacoby Dorch (rushing TD), Tyler Burk (rushing TD; two 20 yards+ catches) and Marquis Lyman (two INTs) all contributed. Next: at Blanche Ely, 7 p.m.
3. (3) Palm Beach Gardens (6-1): Palm Beach Gardens continued to get a strong performance out of quarterback Lynden Moss, who threw for two TDs in a 41-6 win over Wellington. Owen Delhomme had three catches for 80 yards and a TD and Ernest Blackshear had two rushing touchdowns as the Gators play for the District 10-8A title this week against No. 4 Palm Beach Central. 4. (4) Palm Beach Central (6-2): Palm Beach Central picked up its second straight quality win with a 42-13 victory at home against Jupiter. Max Martinez (3 sacks), Jordan Kolnick (10 tackles, 2 sacks, and a TD), Bryan Robinson (3 TDs),and Anarjahe Douriet (more than 200 yards passing) all contributed to the Broncos’ second consecutive win. Next: vs. Palm Beach Gardens, 7 p.m. 5. (5) American Heritage-Delray (5-3): The Stallions hung tough with visiting Champagnat Catholic (Miami), dropping a 20-15 decision as they were hit hard by injuries and finished behind their third-string quarterback. Top QB Zach Bohannon was ruled out before the game, and No. 2 QB Dylan Rizk left in the first quarter. Next: vs. Cardinal Newman, 7 p.m.
6. (NR) Park Vista (6-3): The Cobras rallied late to beat Glades Central as Miles Hughes had two interceptions and Riley Klaus was 9-for-12 passing for 110 yards and one touchdown. Park Vista will battle Santaluces for the District 11-8A championship this week. Park Next: at Santaluces
7. (NR) Boca Raton (5-3): The Bobcats find themselves back in the top 10 after a 43-28 win over Santaluces. Junior DE/TE Ashton Gillotte had six tackles, a sack and a 55-yard TD reception. Next: at Spanish River
8. (7) Cardinal Newman (5-2): The Crusaders dropped a spot after falling to Treasure Coast 43-12 on the road. Cardinal Newman travels to American Heritage-Delray to try to get back on track. Next: at American Heritage-Delray, 7 p.m.
9. (8) Santaluces (5-2): The Chiefs saw their five-game winning streak come to an end with a 43-28 loss to Boca Raton. Santaluces will look to win the District 11-8A title when it faces Park Vista at home. Next: at Park Vista
10. (9) Saint Andrew’s (6-2): The Scots, coming off a 32-14 loss to Lake Highland Prep at home where Jeremiah Young threw for 135 yards and both TDs, go crosstown to play St. John Paul II Academy. The Eagles, who are 4-3 this year after finishing 0-9 last year, are hopeful of their first winning season since 2015.Next: vs. St. John Paul II Academy, 7 p.m.
