Suspect in 27-year-old sex assault found in New Jersey
A man sent to prison for the 1995 rape of a woman who was out jogging in Boca Raton is now accused of a Palm Beach County sex assault that happened three years earlier.
On Oct. 18, just days before the 27th anniversary of the Oct. 22, 1992, attack, Noel K. Bango was found and arrested by the Deptford Police Department in New Jersey.
Deptford Township is located outside Philadelphia,
about 50 miles northwest of Atlantic City.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff ’s Office announced Bango’s arrest Thursday.
The only available details of the 1992 case are that it was a sexual battery involving a teenager outside of Delray Beach.
As in many other cold case sex crimes in Florida, investigators say Bango’s arrest is largely the result of a 2016 state law that tightened up requirements for testing sexual assault kits.
Details about his apprehension and arrest in New Jersey were not immediately available.
Records show that Bango, now 57, has been designated a sexual predator in Florida, Pennsylvania and North Carolina.
In September of 1996, Bango was sentenced to 13 years in prison for a rape that happened late at night on Sept. 11, 1995, as a Boca Raton woman was out jogging after her shift as a waitress.
A Sun Sentinel news account at the time said the woman was grabbed from behind and dragged into an empty lot about a mile from her home.
Bango was released from state prison on Aug. 1, 2006, according to records from the Florida Department of Corrections.
