After LSU’s 46-41 win over Alabama on Saturday, a shakeup was inevitable among the top four teams in the latest College Football Playoff rankings.

LSU (9-0) moved up to take the top spot when the rankings were revealed Tuesday night. The Tigers have never been ranked higher than second in the playoff era.

Ohio State (9-0) dropped a spot to No. 2 despite a 73-14 win over Maryland on Saturday. Clemson (10-0) moved up two spots to third after a 55-10 win over NC State.

And Georgia (8-1) moved up two spots to claim the No. 4 spot, bumping Alabama out of the semifinal picture.

The Tide dropped two spots to No. 5 after their loss to the Tigers. All eyes were on Alabama, with some suggesting Nick Saban’s team could wind up at No. 4 after putting up a fight against a potent LSU team, but a weaker strength of schedule pushed the Tide down below the Bulldogs and could foreshadow some difficulty Alabama may face trying to claw back into the semifinal mix.

The last time the Tide were ranked anywhere other than No. 1 in a playoff poll was when the team was ranked No. 4 in the final 2017 playoff rankings.

Oregon (8-1) is the highest-ranked Pac-12 team at No. 6 after its off week, followed by Utah (8-1) at No. 7.

Undefeated Minnesota (9-0) moved up 10 spots after its impressive 31-26 win over previously undefeated Penn State to No. 8.

This is the second round of six weekly rankings, with the final standings to be revealed on Sunday, Dec. 8. Those rankings will determine the four semifinalists along with the teams participating in the remainder of the New Year’s Six games.

The two semifinals will take place at the Peach Bowl and at the Fiesta Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 28.

The remaining New Year’s Six games will be hosted by the Cotton, Orange, Rose and Sugar bowls.
