New medical marijuana dispensari­es opening in South Florida

One Plant, a new medical marijuana dispensary, has opened at 202 E. Boynton Beach Blvd.

anew dispensary at 1444 S. Federal Highway, just south of SE 10th St., in Deerfield Beach on Wednesday.

The company already has locations 13400 Biscayne Blvd. in North Miami; 5614 S. State Road 7 in Lake Worth; and 4237 Okeechobee Blvd. in West Palm Beach. And GrowHealth­y plans to open a dispensary in Oakland Park, according to its site.

Parent company iAnthus Capital Holdings in New York operates dispensari­es in 11 states.

MedMen, a California-based dispensary that has a location in West Palm Beach, expects to open its Fort Lauderdale dispensary in December. The new store is located at 2949 N. Federal Highway, south of Oakland Park Boulevard.

Florida is becoming a leader in the nation’s marijuana movement, with legal sales of marijuana expected to grow by 6% over the next five years to $1.3 billion, according to BDS Analytics, which tracks the industry.

The number of dispensari­es has more than tripled in Florida and collective­ly shot up sixfold across Palm Beach, Broward and MiamiDade counties.

Trulieve has the largest number of dispensari­es in the state, 40, followed by Surterra Wellness, 36, and Curaleaf, 27.

Since medical marijuana was legalized in Florida in 2016, there are more than 400,000 people who have qualified for the state registry, based on their medical conditions.

Nearly 284,000 are active buyers of medical marijuana, according to state records.
