Parker, Wilson limited, but join practice

- By Safid Deen

DAVIE — Miami Dolphins receivers DeVante Parker and Albert Wilson may be in the NFL’s concussion protocol, but both players took a step toward their return by being limited participants in practice on Wednesday.

Parker and Wilson — who both suffered concussions last Sunday against the New York Jets — stretched and warmed up, then participated in position drills while wearing red, non-contact jerseys at the start of practice.

Both players will remain in the protocol with hopes to ramp up their practice participation this week as the Dolphins (3-10) prepare for Sunday’s road game against the New York Giants (2-11) at MetLife Stadium.

The Dolphins could have some concern with another receiver before Sunday’s game: Allen Hurns did not practice on Wednesday, dealing with ankle and knee injuries he has played through in recent weeks.

Parker and Wilson would both have get out of the protocol before playing Sunday’s game.

Having Parker, Wilson and Hurns available to play could help the Dolphins offense significantly, particularly during the final stretch with three games remaining this season.

Parker, Miami’s first-round pick in 2015, is having the best season of his career thanks to his overall health and continuity with quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Parker has started all 13 games this season, and leads the team with 55 catches for 882 yards and six touchdowns. He needs three more receptions to set a new career high, after already setting career highs in receiving yards and touchdowns this season.

Wilson has improved in recent weeks after a lingering hip injury hampered much of his season. He is fifth on the team with 26 catches, and has gained 154 yards receiving with one touchdown. The Dolphins also depend on Wilson to play in Wildcat formations, which Miami was unable to use in his absence.

Fitzpatrick and the Dolphins relied on Hurns (five catches, 65 yards) and receiver Isaiah Ford (career-high six receptions for 92 yards) to pace the offense against the Jets, while tight ends Mike Gesicki and Durham Smythe only had one catch each.

The Dolphins are also working swiftly to acclimate new receivers Mack Hollins and Trevor Davis in the mix to provide depth and support the passing attack.

Along with Parker and Wilson, Dolphins starting rookie cornerback Nik Needham (groin) and rookie fullback Chandler Cox (shoulder) were limited in Wednesday’s practice. to in
