BOCA RATON — Florida Atlantic coach Willie Taggart is reuniting with another former Seminole.

FAU announced Monday that Malcolm Lamar, a 6-foot-5, 277-pound former Florida State defensive lineman, has transferred to the university. It’s unknown whether Lamar will be eligible to play during the 2020 season.

He’s the second former FSU player to transfer to FAU in the past week. The Owls announced earlier Monday that former Seminoles wide receiver D’Marcus Adams transferred to FAU. Adams, a 6-foot receiver out of Daytona Beach, told 247 Sports that he’ll apply for a waiver so he can be eligible to play during the 2020 season.

247 Sports ranked Lamar as No. 9 defensive end prospect in the country and the No. 42 overall prospect in Florida, while ESPN ranked him as the No. 12 defensive tackle prospect in the nation and the No. 33 player in Florida in high school.

USA Today named him second-team AllUSA Florida after his senior year at Armwood. Lamar redshirted his freshman season at FSU in 2018 before playing in four games and making two tackles during the 2019 season.

Wessel enters transfer portal

Quarterback Trent Wessel announced Monday on Twitter that he’s entered the transfer portal to “explore my options as a 5th-year grad transfer quarterback.”

Wessel joined FAU in 2016 after playing for Fork Union Military Academy (Virginia) in 2015. He was a student assistant in 2017 and saw action during the 2019 season in the second half against ODU on Oct. 26, completing a 6-yard pass and recording two carries.

“Although it pains me to leave, I am excited for the next step in my journey,” Wessel said in the tweet. “I have learned so much about life on and off the field, and I have FAU to thank for that.”

Wessel’s departure leaves Chris Robison, Nick Tronti and Justin Agner as the active quarterbacks on the Owls roster. Sophomore Javion Posey, who moved over to wide receiver during the 2019 season, is listed as a wide receiver/quarterback on FAU’s official 2020 roster.
