How Duffy’s Sports Grill plans to reopen

The Palm Beach Countybased Duffy’s Sports Grill chain will begin a phased reopening of all 34 of its restaurants across the state on July 1.

Five locations — North Miami Beach, North Palm Beach, Jupiter West, Cape Coral on the Gulf Coast and Port St. Lucie — will open July 1.

Precisely when other South Florida Duffy’s restaurants will open is unclear, though the goal is to have a majority open by the end of July, the company said.

“Duffy’s anticipates opening all its locations. Further updates on each opening will follow in the weeks to come,” said Joe Webb, president of Duffy’s, in a press statement.

The phased reopening is a function of varying coronavirus rules governing the restaurant business in the state, a Duffy’s spokesman said. The restaurant chain’s locations in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties are governed by the state’s Phase 1 reopening guidelines, limiting them to 50 percent capacity. The rest of the state has moved to Phase 2.

Further complicating Duffy’s business model: All of the major sports leagues have been sidelined by the new coronavirus since mid-March.

Consistent with recent restaurant reopening protocols, Duffy’s locations will require daily health screenings, masks and gloves for all employees, limited dine-in capacity and offer expanded outdoor seating options.

“Health safety and quality of service have always been our top priority, and we are coming back better than ever,” Webb said.
