Twin baby girls found at scene of fatal shooting

POMPANO BEACH – Twin baby girls were found at the scene of a fatal shooting Monday in Pompano Beach, the Broward Sheriff ’s Office said.

An unidentified woman was shot dead about 5:15 a.m. at Palm Aire Gardens North, in the 600 block of Gardens Drive.

She was related to the children, the Sheriff’s Office said, but it wouldn’t explain how.

The two girls were removed from the condo and are in the custody of the Department of Children & Families. A Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said the girls were younger than 1 but did not know their exact age.

“Currently, we have crime scene and homicide detectives on scene investigating the circumstances behind this death,” said Gerdy St. Louis, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office. “We did locate two infant twins inside the residence. We can confirm they are related to the victim, however, we cannot confirm the relationship.”

Two people, visibly distraught, hugged each other on a porch near the scene on Monday morning.

The death is being investigated as a homicide, officials said.

Sheriff’s Office officials said they believe the shooting was an isolated incident with no threat to the public. They provided no additional information Monday afternoon.
