Broward sports teams can start workouts Sept. 21

Teams that begin workouts will have to follow several COVID-19 restrictio­ns, including

social distancing during workouts and dividing athletes and coaches into 10-person pods.

Some Broward County private schools, such as Chaminade-Madonna, Calvary Christian and Westminste­r Academy, have already started their fall sports seasons. American Heritage will begin its football season on Friday. Another private school, University School, has canceled its football season.

Cerra said there are still several issues to work out over the next several weeks.

The Florida High School Athletic Associatio­n allowed schools around the state to begin practices on Aug. 24, and teams in other parts of the state started football season on Sept. 4.
