■ Yankees: Giancarlo Stanton was activated and was set to start at DH after missing 32 games because of a strained left hamstring. The team made the move before a series opener against the Blue Jays. The Yankees also activated 3B Gio Ur shela, who has a bone spur in his right elbow, and RHP Jonathan Loaisiga, who was sidelined with a medical condition the team did not specify. OF Aaron Judge, limited to one game since Aug. 11 because of a strained right calf, is expected to be activated later this week. Stanton hit .293 with three homers and seven RBIs in 14 games before he got hurt. INF Mike Ford and INF/OF Miguel Andujar were sent to the alternate training site.

■ Giants, Mariners: The two-game series between the Giants and the Mariners in Seattle that was scheduled to start Tuesday night was postponed because of smoky skies caused by the West Coast wildfires. The teams will now play Wednesday and Thursday at Oracle Park in San Francisco. The teams will now play at 9:40 p.m. ET Wednesday and 4:10 p.m. ETThursday atOracle Park in San Francisco. The announceme­nt came as forecaster­s called for smoke to reach very unhealthy levels in Western Washington through at least Thursday. Both teams had a scheduled day off Thursday that allowed them to avoid playing a doublehead­er on Wednesday. Some players complained about smoky conditions Monday night after theMariner­s split adoublehea­der with the Athletics. Smoke conditions during the games reached a level of very unhealthy on the air quality index, even with the T-Mobile roof closed.

■ Dodgers: The team activated 3B Justin Turner fromthe 10-day injuredlis­t. Turner was expected to start at DH for Tuesday night’s game in San Diego. He missed 13 games with a left hamstring strain. Before going on the IL, Turner was batting .282 with two homers and 20 RBIs in 32 games during the shortened season. In a correspond­ing move, the Dodgers optioned RHP Josh Sborz. He has made three appearance­s for the team, allowing one earned run in three innings with two strikeouts.

■ Braves: The club laid off an unspecifie­d number of employees throughout their organizati­on because of the economic hit caused by the coronaviru­s pandemic. Furloughs and cuts have been widespread throughout baseball since the league suspended operations in March. The season finally started in July with a shortened 60-game schedule, but no fans are allowed to attend. After USA Today's Bob Nightengal­e reported the layoffs, which he said included several of the Braves’ top pro scouts, the team issued a statement confirming that is has “completed a re-organizati­on of full-time staff, spread across all areas of the organizati­on including our baseball, business, real estate developmen­t and minor league operations.” The Braveswill cover the cost of health insurance for affected employees through the end of the year, a team official said.
