Aaron Lynch comes out of retirement, looks to rejoin Jaguars

- Tribune wire reports

JACKSONVILLE — Veteran defensive end/linebacker Aaron Lynch has unretired and been reinstated to Jacksonville’s roster.

Lynch walked away in August, just a few days into training camp. It was another blow to a position group that had two opt-outs,two-season-ending injuries and another setback when defensive tackle Rodney Gunter was forced to step away from football because of an enlarged heart.

Lynch was placed on theexempt list. He will have togo through COVID-19 protocols before he’s allowed to return to the facility. The Jaguars (1-5) will get to see him practice before deciding whether to activate him to the 53-man roster.

They surely could use some help considering they are tied for last in the league with five sacks and have lost five in a row heading across the country to play the Los Angeles Chargers (1-4). Josh Allen (knee) has missed the past two games but is expected to return this week.

Jacksonville was so thin at linebacker that it traded for Tennessee reserve Kamalei Correa last week and started him against Detroit days later.

The 6-foot-6, 270-pound Lynch was a fifth-round draft pick by San Francisco in 2014. He has 105 tack les, including 20 sacks, in 73 games.

He spent the past two seasons with Chicago.

After going through four kickers in the past month, the Jaguar s Lam bo to return from the injury list Wednesday.

The Jaguars have 21 days to return Lambo to the active roster, but he could be available for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Coach Doug Marrone said Lambo had been progressing well and was expected to practice on a limited basis starting Wednesday.

The Jaguars Lambo on injured reserve on Sept. 23 because of a hip injury and he has missed the past four games. During the stretch, the Jaguars used a different kicker for each game — Brandon Wright, Stephen Hauschka, Aldrick Rosas and Jon Brown,

Brown made his first field goal at any level from 31 yards in the first quarter during Sunday’s 30-16 loss to the Detroit Lions. Later Brown missed a 32-yard attempt that hit the top of the right upright.

Brown played soccer on scholarship at Kentucky. After transferring to Louisville, he walked on asa footballplayer and was a kick off specialist but never attempted a PAT or field goal for the Cardinals.

But over the last 3½ seasons, Lamb oh as been remarkably efficient for the Jaguars.

Lambo has a franchise-best 94.89 field goal percentage (min: 25 attempts) connecting on 74 of 78 attempts, which is the highest by any player in the NFL since 2017 (min. 10 FGA). He ranks third in franchise history in made field goals (74) and fourth in extra points (63).
