Globe Field roof closed for Game 3

-

Game 3 of theWorld Series had a different look for the Rays and Dodgers.

Theroof at Globe Fieldwas closed for Friday night’s game between the Dodgers and Rays.

The commissioner’s office said in a statement it made the decision “given Friday’s forecasted temperatures, wind chill and the possibility of rain.”

With temperatures forecast to dip into the 40s and the possibility of more rain, which was an issue during the day in Arlington, Texas, MLB officials made an early call.

The roof at the new $1.2 billion home of the Texas Rangers had been open for the first two games. The temperature was 82 degrees when Tuesday’s opener began and 81 degrees when Game 2 started Wednesday night.

MLBsaid it consulted with medical advisers and believes a closed roof will “provide the best competitive environment for players and the most comfort for fans without jeopardizing their safety in any way.”

The roof has been open for all 12 postseason games, all involving the Dodgers. During the regular season, the first for the ballpark, the Rangers played with it closed 24 times and open six.

There was a significant difference in runs scored: Open: 11.83 runs per game Closed: 8.21 runs per game TheRays had CharlieMorton, their “postseason stud,” as managerKevin Cash called him, on the mound. The Dodgers started right-hander Walker Buehler.

The Series was tied at one game apiece after the Dodgers won the opener 8-3 and the RayswonGame 2 by 6-4.
