Well! So much for unity

-

The letter writer claims that the Sun Sentinel did not call for unity under Trump and that it is hypocritical to do so for Biden. [“Unity Shmoonity,” Letters to the editor, Nov. 16] I’d remind the writer that before Trump was elected he, and many of his supporters, chose to denigrate and demonize Obama with false charges of his ineligibility for office, racial attacks on him and his family, and false claims about his religion and political ideology. Not only Obama, but Democrats in general, have been branded as traitors, evil, pedophiles and other abhorrent attacks.

Trump has reaped what he has sown, the main difference being that “attacks” on Trump are based on factual evidence. From his calls for exonerated minorities falsely convicted to be executed [ ed.

note: In 1989, Trump ran a full-page ad in New York newspapers advocating the return of the death penalty after the arrest, but before the exoneration, of five minors accused of rape. As recently as 2019, he has not apologized and said, “You have people

on both sides of that.”], his settlement of racial discrimination charges brought by the Department of Justice, his multiple settlements with women to avoid adverse publicity, his disgraceful language toward women and political opponents, his attacks on our free press as “enemies of the people,” his refusal to address foreign interference in our elections, his failures to definitively condemn white supremacists, his blatant disregard and denial of science and facts, his cheating of business partners and contractors, his fraud committed on his “university” students [ ed. note: Like the racial discrimination lawsuit brought by the Justice Department in the 1970s, the Trump University class-action suits were settled with no admission of guilty on the part of Trump.], his use of a charity as his personal piggy bank, his ridiculous assertions about Biden (“There will be no heating in the winter, no air conditioning in the summer, and no electricity whenever the hell you want it,” to name one.), his refusal to acknowledge our democratic process, etc.

These are his actions that he has been held accountable for by the voters. He has sought to divide by fear and lies.

If the writer truly wishes for unity, she needs to look at what her (presumably) candidate and party have brought in the absence of rational arguments to defend their positions on the issues before our nation and call out their lies and demonization.
