I-95 overpass will close for more than a year
Construction at Clint Moore Road begins March 8
BOCA RATON — The Clint Moore Road overpass at Interstate 95 will close for over a year, eliminating a popular east-west route through Boca Raton.
Starting March 8, the bridge will close for construction in connection with express lanes on I-95, the Florida Department of Transportation said.
The westbound traffic on Clint Moore will be detoured on NW Second Avenue, Yamato Road and Congress Avenue. The eastbound traffic will be detoured on Park of Commerce Boulevard, Congress Avenue, Yamato Road and NW Second Avenue.
The overpass will be closed to all traffic, except emergency vehicles, until the summer of 2022.
The entire project is expected to wrap up toward the end of 2023 and cost $148 million, according to the transportation department.
The closure is designed to help crews work safely on I-95 express lanes from just south of Glades Road to south of Linton Boulevard.
One lane will be added and the high-occupancy vehicle lane will be converted to create two express lanes in each direction on the interstate, according to the transportation department.
On Clint Moore Road, reconstruction will make room for the expanded express lanes below and then include 7-foot bike lanes and expanded multiuse paths, according to the city.
“FDOT’s work to replace the bridge on a shorter time will lessen the inconvenience of a closure that would otherwise be much longer,” said Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer. “The bridge will remain open at all times to emergency vehicles.”
